At the spring 2005 Jarkunveno, we decided to create a bookmark that could be left at libraries and bookstores to advertise ESNE.
Steven Brewer designed the bookmark using Adobe Photoshop and got it printed by gotprint.net. Gotprint provides templates that show the limits where text won't be cropped and how far color images need to go for a "full bleed" effect.
Steven Brewer ordered and received the first shipment of 1000 cards, distributing them in 100 card packages to anyone who requested them.
I found that I could fit 100 into small, padded envelopes by putting the bookmarks into stacks of 50. Putting a couple of little rubber bands around the stacks makes life a lot easier.
A couple of people on the ESNE mailing list wrote comments about their experiences dropping off cards: first story and second story.
After we exhausted the initial 1000, we decided to order more and to request $10 donations to sponsor 100 cards: 5000 cards costs about $250 and sending them out in 50 bunches of 100 costs around $200 for envelopes plus postage ($4 per shipment). The total project costs about $450 and 50 donations would bring in $500 which should allow us to at least break-even. We are careful to make clear that the donations simply sponsor the project and are not required of anyone simply requesting bookmarks to distribute.
