First Annual Mark's Meadow Community Picnic Celebration!
End of year celebration Picnic for the Mark's Meadow Community! Friday June 18 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
All Mark's Meadow past, present, and future student and staff families invited!
Please bring a picnic dinner for your family. Beverages will be provided (I think PGG will but I will if they won't, so don't say PGG)
Come relax and celebrate happy endings and new beginnings at Mark's Meadow. Open mic will be available.
- Inviting alumni (Alisa mailed postcards Tues 6/1 to 86 MM alum currently in grades 7-12)
- Sending home a backpack flyer at least twice (printed free at hs w/PGG paper) (1st time done 6/4)
- Posting backpack flyer copies in halls (Alisa done 6/2)
- Having Room Parents mention June 18 picnic when they call to pester people about Staff Appreciation Luncheon (Alisa emailed Kerri 6/1)
- Inviting incoming K families (Alisa has the class list permission slips for those families)
- Inviting former teachers/other staff (moved to other buildings like Mel Atwell, retired, etc) (see list Alisa provided to Anita/Nick -- Alisa mailed interoffice 6/2)
- Making posters for in the school (like Rats posters) (Alisa suggested to Yaldira 6/1 that Student Council may want to consider this or other activities as a Council)
- Talking up picnic at PGG meeting (needs to be done Mon 6/7)
- Setting up a bubbles table for fun at the Picnic (I think PGG still has a big bottle of bubbles in the closet)
- Soliciting talent show participants to perform at Picnic
- Soliciting other students and families to perform at Picnic
- Soliciting staff to perform at Picnic
- Soliciting beverages (Dan donating (1) rootbeer, still need variety of juices & sodas & plain water)
- Setting up cups, ice, and extra paper goods (will be after Staff Appreciation so we won't be messing up stock)
- Setting up some extra tables and chairs
- Soliciting desserts from PGG and others (Alisa emailed 6/1 to some PGG)
- Explore renting a popcorn machine (that outside kind) (about $50 last time I checked)
- Soliciting donations of ice cream or popsicles (popsicles possibly The Harp? ask Mark/Jolene)
- Explore having some balls or other equipment (jump ropes? hula hoops?) available for play
- Explore having face painting available
- Having Yanin have the girls who are practicing dance perform
- Putting notice in Amherst Bulletin calendar (as reminder to invitees)
- Putting notice in Hampshire Life calendar (as reminder to invitees)
- Getting Phyllis Lehrer to mention it in Bulletin school briefs
- Taking pictures for next year's yearbook
- Selling yearbooks in a casual fashion (explore people being able to pay later; recognize all 6th graders and give to them)
- Exploring establishing a buddy system for incoming K families (Alyssa?)
- Encourage After School program to take some sort of active role
- Inviting other community members, e.g., Superintendent, SPED Dir, ELL Dir, etc., School Committee members, Select Board members & Town Manager, UMass relationship person (Effrat?), police, fire fighters, alum student teachers & alum volunteers (see list Alisa provided to Anita/Nick -- Alisa mailed interoffice 6/2 and postcards 6/2; didn't included all these people in this ideas list but all people it was sent to are listed on list Alisa provided to Anita/Nick)
- Ask UMass to bring a police horse
- Ask LSSE to donate a summer pool pass for a door prize
- Explore getting a dunk tank (some high school group had one at Community Fair) (Alisa called Stan Z 6/5, asked Meg & Peter to followup)
- Plan layout so clear where people should gather to eat and what is play area (avoid conflict)
- Provide name tags for everyone (especially kids so we can boss other people's kids around by name:-) (still exploring -- how to mandate without making seem formal)
- Nick ask Anita to help Alisa brainstorm alum ideas DONE
- Nick make sure any issues of MEMO or Community include mention of Picnic June 18 ONGOING (June issue Community went home 5/27)
- Nick announce picnic at June CARS assembly June 18 FUTURE
- Nick announce picnic at Chorus Concert DONE
- Nick talk to Ted and whoever else about setting up open mic and stage of some kind DONE
- Nick pass the word to staff that this is going to be big time fun and all ideas are welcome and more planners needed ONGOING
- Nick responsible for the mood music -- set a great background with good music going between any performances or announcements
- Nick brainstorm what activities should be available to engage for grade 7-12 attendees? I assume Martha will let us use footballs, frisbees, that sort of thing. I'm assuming that we will NOT allow basketball playing as we'll need that space and it would be exclusionary anyway.
