Parent Guardian Group Notes from 10-6-05
Sharon Vardatira (facilitator), Evan Shopper (notes), Nick Yaffe, Alyssa Melnick, Carl Mc Phee, Jackie Churchill, Dan Kramer
Nick’s Report: There are 3 to 7 new students in each class, kids are reaching out to each other and the newer students. Each class has developed its code of conduct. The school in turn developed its own code of conduct based upon similar beliefs. There is a sense of community here, not just in how we treat each other, but the building, for example. Working towards having teachers and parents and kids share their academic and social goals in parent teacher conferences.
Treasurers Report: The Bake Sale made $122. The Ha Ha Sisterhood grossed over $300. Childcare is now being provided and paid for during the SGC meetings. Dan has purchased a field striper to mark the field in paint for kick ball. October 17th meeting on fundraising in which we will discuss how to raise and spend money; pizza and childcare will be provided, all are welcome to come.
Science Fair: Alyssa will give four months notice of the date for the fair to give older students time to prepare. There was a general consensus that early February would be a good time. Alyssa will write up the proposal.
SGC: Meeting dates will be posted and minutes will be emailed to parents, and posted on the PGG board. If there are concerns about parent / teacher communication the SGC may be a good place to discuss this. SGC is looking at school needs, especially space planning. They will be thinking ahead to plan for the hiring of good staff.
Usborn Book fair: October 25 through the 27th, considering letting kids walk through the sale at school but not buy at that time.
Library Help: Parents and Guardians are encouraged to volunteer time to help out in the Library. Sharon will work on a communication system through PGG to get more volunteer help for projects.
Yearbook: Planning needs to start now. The possibility of having an after school club with the 6th graders was raised, need someone to step forward to do this project.
Room Parent Discussion: Considering possibilities may have a separate meeting on this, a survey will be developed; SGC should also have a discussion on this.
PGG Coordination: Looking at roles in PGG, and inviting more parents and guardians to meetings.
Hamlet School Tour: Hard to make decision by the 15th, suggested to pursue this with a local group, $2000 price tag is a lot.
