Where is Muppyville?

Muppyville is an imaginary place you can visit on the internet. If you type this URL into a web browser (like Internet Explorer), it will take you to Muppyville

http://ilo.homelinux.org/muppyville/

Who can visit Muppyville?

The only people who should be able to log in are your classmates, your families, and a few other people who know me or are helping me. Remember -- everyone you meet in Muppyville is a real person, so remember to be friendly and polite, just like you would be in real life.

How do I log in?

You should have a username and password. Your username can be your real name. Your password should not be your real name. Your username and your password can each be letters, numbers, or a combination of letters and numbers, but not punctuation marks.

To log in, type

connect username password

(replacing "username password" with your username and password, of course).

Muppyville should tell you where you are and what you can see. The first time you connect, you should be on the Muppyville Common. You can think of it as being something like the Common in Amherst.

Now what?

First, you might want to describe yourself so that if people look at you, they can see what you look like. Type

@describe me as A 10 foot clown with a red nose.

Or maybe you don't want to look like a clown?

@describe me as The Super Chicken of the Northland.

Second, you might want to say whether you're male (a boy) or female (a girl) or neither. If you want to be a boy, type

@gender male

Third, you might want to go someplace else. You can go pretty much any direction from the Common (North, South, East, or West). In fact, you only need to type the first letter. You can also try typing

u

to go up to the treehouse.

Fourth, if you meet someone, you might want to say something. To say something, you don't need quotation marks, just the word say, so type

say Hello! I'm not really a clown!

Fifth, when you have a question, type

help

There is a lot of documentation you can read that explains how to do almost anything. If you're having trouble, just ask someone.

What next?

I hope you will enjoy visiting Muppyville. You can use it to meet your friends and chat, to work on homework together, or whatever else you want to do. If you want to add more places to Muppyville or create furniture and objects, you can learn how to do that. Start by thinking of some places you'd like to create and then find "limako" and tell him where you want to begin. He can get you started with MuppyvilleProgramming

Enjoy!
