Campaign Message from Alisa:

I am writing to seek your support for my re-election to the Amherst Elementary and Regional Schools Committees. My first three-year term was as exciting as I had hoped, and more work than I could have imagined! During this time we have continued to insist on reasonable class sizes, provided a wide variety of opportunities to help each student find his or her niche as well as a sense of belonging, increased focus on effective hiring, support, and evaluation, and made strides to improve efficiencies so that we can focus on learning for all members of our school community, not solely on standardized test scores and paperwork.

My opposition in this campaign would have you believe that the form of government Amherst chooses in this election is the most important criterion for who represents our values in our community schools. I have both the experience and the ability to work with whoever ends up making decisions about our town, and to continue supporting our priorities in these difficult economic times. I have been a Town Meeting member since 1999, and a Joint Capital Planning Committee member since 2003. I have chaired the Comprehensive Planning Committee for a year now, and we continue to make progress in listening to all townspeople in creating the Amherst our children will inherit.

Thanks to your support, we have a great school system, and we are constantly working together to make it better for each one -- and for everyone.

Thanks very much for your help.
