I took a stroll through Amherst this evening with Plato. It is a warm, early summer evening. Amherst was relatively quiet although the presence of 4 or 5 limousines implied that some larger event was happening: perhaps it was prom night. One of the limousines had been created by stretching one of the monstrous Lincoln Navigator SUVs. A true dinosaur of our times, presaging the fall to come.

We started down by Brueggers and walked down to La Veracruzana, crossed the street, walked to Sweetzer fountain and rested for a few minutes, and then walked back. We took a brief detour to stop at the drinking fountain. Sweetzer fountain is too high for Plato to get a drink, but he seemed thirsty. I tried to help him drink from the drinking fountain, but he snubbed my offer.

We met several folks along the way and chatted a bit. Everyone who meets Plato loves him. A pair of African-American women moved way out of the way, though. Oh, well. You can't please everyone.
