Today was a bad day. Today was the deadline for filling out a fullbright scholarship application. I had meant to fill one out, but hadn't been successfull in finding a place to go. Sigh... It's depressing. I really don't know what to do about organizing a sabatical.

The other piece of bad news was the failure of the State of Massachusetts to fulfill their obligation to fund the contracts that were negotiated with the Massachusetts Society of Professors. The contract was negotiated more than a year ago and should have taken effect last July 1st. I had assumed that the legislature, which is still arguing about last year's budget, would eventually fund the contract retroactively, but evidently this is not going to happen and the contract will now need to be renegotiated. Don't you wish you could buy a car that way? Sign the papers, drive it for a year, and then come back and say, "Well, I'll still keep the car, but I don't want to pay that much for it anymore. Let's negotiate some more. We can probably come to some kind of agreement within another year and then maybe the following year I'll pay you. Or maybe I'll just do the same thing again!"

This afternoon, Charlie and I went to see Lilo & Stitch one more time. I think its about the end it's run here and we'll have to wait for the DVD to see it again. I wouldn't have suggested it myself, but Charlie didn't have to twist my arm very hard to get me to go see it again. It was a nice escape from a bad, hot day.
