I've been sick for the past couple of days. Every fall, for the past several years, I've come down with some kind of bronchitis around this time. I started getting sick on Sunday, I stayed home most of Monday, and today went in for only half a day. I hate being sick. Two years ago, the bronchitis progressed into pneumonia. I'm trying to rest and get better so as to avoid having that happen again. When I got pneumonia, I was out for more than a week and wasn't fully recovered for months.

I stayed home most of Monday, but I had to go in to run the TA orientation session for the bioinformatics lab. The bioinformatics lab has a bit of a rocky history. I didn't create a bioinformatics activity until I found something cool that I thought it was worth having students do. When I taught the activity, it was hard, but it went well enough that I got applause at the end of it. The TAs were vocal about hating it: they didn't understand it and it was too much work. I've redesigned it every year as technology has changed and, this year, I reduced it down to following about 6 web links. Just follow the links and look at stuff. The TA coordinator was ecstatic. "It's so much better!" she said. Oh well. At least people won't complain about it as much anymore.

I used an image of Plato to create a september t-shirt and coffee mug. Maybe I should link to it from the 'pet' area on cafepress. Someone complemented me on one of my shirts today. I observed they were available for sale on the web, but the person didn't express any burning desire to have ordering info.
