I think I must be catching a virus. This morning, I noticed a little cramp in my neck after I woke up. By lunch-time, I began to have spasms that were painful enough to cause me to catch my breath if I turned my head the wrong way. I decided to come home at lunch time, take some ibuprofen, and get away from a computer screen for a while.

I ended up watching Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone with Daniel. (Some improvement!) Some of the sounds in the movie are too horrifying for Daniel, so he mutes the TV when those are about to come on. Once they're past, he turns the volume back up. I asked him if he'd want to be in House Griffleclaw if he went to Hogwarts. "No, DD! It's Griffindor!" he said. "You're just trying to confuse me!"

I remembered that there is an email-to-text-messaging gateway I can use to send text messages to Phil, so I set about trying it out with my new Tungsten. I found that with the palm software you can only configure two email addresses for someone, so I removed Phil's work address and replaced it with his text-messaging address. We send a couple of messages back and forth. His replies were pretty short, but enough to let me know that he'd gotten my messages. To see if he'd replied, I checked my mail on the Tungsten. The Versamail email client is really excellent. It's really too bad that spammers have nearly ruined email. I wonder what will be next? Advertisements that insert themselves into your data stream so that you'll be reading a message from your mother that will suddenly include a few extra lines about how to enlarge your penis? Maybe I shouldn't give them the idea.

I invited Philip to present at the ELNA Landa Kongreso, which is in Boston this year. He replied saying that he doesn't think he'll be able to attend. Poor little blighter. I'm not exactly happy about attending myself. I'd rather do almost anything than go into Cambridge again.
