Today we did the drive home. (I'm actually writing this on the next day, but who's counting...) It was a long an arduous drive. We had a bit of a rough start when the rear hatch on the car wouldn't open, so we had to load everything through one of the back doors instead. We got off by 6:20am, driving into the misty, moisty morning. We stopped at a McDonalds for coffee and breakfast in Tarboro and were north of DC by lunchtime. We hit heavy traffic in Delaware that didn't really let up until we were halfway through New Jersey. A sign warned of a one-hour delay at the George Washington bridge, so we switched to the Garden State Parkway (knowing that there would probably be a long delay at the Tappan Zee (and there was)). We had dinner at the last service area in New Jersey and then waited through the long traffic jam before the Tappan Zee. It was 9pm as we finally got through and paid the last toll (about $12 in tolls each way). We gave the folks at each end a quick call, to let them know we were running late and wouldn't call when we got in. We got the boys to sleep at about 9:30 and then Alisa and I listened to music and chatted for the rest of the drive home. It was good to get home.
