The internet was down for several hours this morning, came up around noon, and then had one more brief outage around 2pm. I'm reminded of the Onion article (widely reprinted in weblogs) "48 hour internet outage plunges nation into productivity." People seemed kind of bewildered: What? No Internet? Can that happen? When it came back up, there was a collective rush to log in and check email. I had been chastened by Phil for poking him about not updating his journal and then not logging in to read it.
Tom has a wiki! He's using tikiwiki! He hasn't make public links to it yet, so I won't link to it here yet. Tomorrow is a meeting of the SEO faculty and wikis are on the agenda. Wikis are good.
Working on my Zeppelin story has used up most of my journal writing time. I'm making good progress, though. I've reached nearly 4000 words and figure I'm about 3/5ths done. I've had a couple of false starts trying to time the next key event. I also changed an idea I had when I discovered I didn't know enough about zeppelins. I need to find more detailed reference materials about zeppelins to make sure that what I'm describing is possible, if not plausible. I'm going to need to go back over my writing and add some key descriptive passages to flesh out detail to make the story seem gritty and believable.
