Following Thanksgiving, we (minus the boys) are going to try to follow a low carbohydrate diet. I tend to skeptical of faddish diets, but I spoke with a colleague who said that it had worked for her. (And with someone else willing to organize the meals, I'm willing to try almost anything.) So we'll see. I think the fact that all of us are going it is going to make it a lot easier. Lucy tried the Atkin's diet when it first came out (1972) and, after only a day, found it very uncomfortable. Since then, the diet has been moderated somewhat, allowing you 20 grams of carbohydrates: a little bit of salad and vegetables. She tried it for a couple of days last week and said that it seemed good -- she thought she felt better at the end of the day, rather than worse. At the end of the first day, it doesn't seem too bad to me.
