For the past several years, the Nord-Amerika Somera Kurso has been taught just up the road in Brattleboro. I haven't attended because it is expensive -- around $2k for the course fees and housing. That isn't so unreasonable, given that the course runs from July 5 through July 23, but it's a lot more than I can afford to spend on what is fundamentally a hobby. This year, I noticed that Duncan Charters is going to teach the advanced course and a teaching methods course. I met him a couple of years ago at Okemo, where he impressed me as an really impressive Esperantist and a terribly funny and engaging speaker. So this year, I've sent in a request for scholarship info. Even with a scholarship, it may still be more than I can afford to spend, but it's worth looking into.
Today is the first day of classes here. Students and faculty are running hither and yon trying to figure out what's happening. My first class meeting isn't until tomorrow. I'm still trying to nail down some of the details on how I want to run the class -- in particular, I want to have increased opportunities for peer review. In the past, we did some peer review in class, but this time around, I'd like to have more substantive reviewing of the actual papers that students and student groups write. Figuring out how to structure that is tricky. I'm still thinking about it.
