This morning I attended a meeting for statewide organizers for Dean. Two meetings were held: one here at UMass and another this afternoon in Boston. There was a fairly good showing here, given that it was at 8:30 on a Saturday morning. The goal was to provide an overview of the current Dean strategy and ideas for conducting grassroots organizing. Steve Grossman offered the opening remarks, followed by a series of presentations that suggested ways to get names, addresses, and phone numbers and what to do with them. About half were new to political action and, although much of what was said was really just common sense, it was useful to have it organized and to hear the various caveats and suggestions by old-time organizers.
