Class today was great! I posted an entry about it in my class blog.

After class, I was planning to go on a bike ride, but while I was in class, the temperature dropped and it began to look like rain. Ever since I got hypothermia one time on a bike ride, I'm wary of going out when it looks like the conditions are right. So I didn't go.

I got a rejection notice from the All Star Zeppelin anthology. My first rejection notice! I'll have to work on getting some more of those.

Phil asked me about endurance exercising on a low carb diet. I did a little research and found some encouraging information. This article found that when you're just beginning a low-carb diet there may be a deficit, but once you're aclimated you're just fine

[...] long-term adaptation to a low carbohydrate diet can greatly alter muscle and whole body energy metabolism to drastically limit the oxidation of limited carbohydrate stores with no adverse effect on performance.

This site described some reduction in the ability to do intense workouts, but for long moderate activity (like bike rides), a low-carb diet may actually be better

A study done in 1994 compared two groups of cyclists - one on low fat/high carb and the other on low carb/high fat. For high intensity workouts, both groups did equally well. For long, moderate intensity workouts (Tour de France), it was the high fat group that did better. There are other studies that show that increased healthy fat intake boosts endurance and oxygen consumption.

Excellent!

Tonight I have my first meeting as an elected member of the Town Democratic Committee. I think I'm being nominated for Secretary -- I must have "sucker" emblazoned on my forehead.
