I was expecting work to be quiet today because of the holiday -- the university wasn't closed, but it is closed Monday for Patriot's Day, so I was expecting people to leave early for the long holiday. But it wasn't. (Quiet, that is.) I was hoping to recompile and install updated versions of a bunch of packages on snapper, but there were 60 or 70 active httpd processes all morning -- mostly students doing duck for a big biol105 exam. In the afternoon, things did quiet down and I got a few things compiled and installed in the afternoon.
I left work a bit early to spend time with the boys -- they have Friday, but not Monday off. I was hoping we might get Daniel to practice bike riding on campus. Unfortunately, they had gotten a new gamecube game and were snake fascinated. So I went on a ride by myself. I rode a 12.5 mile loop to the middle of Sunderland and back. The wind was out of the northwest, so the first half was right into the wind, but once I turned the corner, it was smooth sailing all the way home. I felt much stronger on this ride and averaged nearly 10mph -- nothing to write home about, but significantly faster than my earlier rides. I'm hoping to get in another ride tomorrow while the nice weather lasts because after that it looks like rain for the rest of the week.
