This morning Lucy and I reconnoitered the Manhan Rail Trail and then I bought some shoes. Buzz and I have beeen talking about bicycling to a half-way point between us which seems like somewhere around Easthampton. I suggested aiming for the Manhan Rail trail, which runs between Easthampton and Northampton. Lucy and I could make a picnic that she can bring to us in the car. The only fly-in-the-ointment is that there is bridge construction on a busy road just before the trailhead and they have the traffic reduced to one lane with a light to cross the temporary bridge. That seems like a dubious place to ride a bike. This morning, we found the trailhead and then looked for a place to park where we could walk with Plato. Eventually we found one near the middle of the trail and walked along the back of some abandoned mills. An interesting post-industrial landscape. Afterwards, I bought some new shoes -- some athletic shoes for going to the fitness club and some new cycling shoes. The shoes I've been wearing have soles that are too flexible and are hurting my feet. It will be nice to have some decent cycling shoes again for long-distance rides.
