Alisa, Lucy, and Plato brought me pizza from Antonios for lunch. Well, to be accurate, Alisa and Lucy brought me pizza for lunch and Plato came along too. I believe Plato would be incapable of bringing anyone pizza for lunch. He'd just eat it all himself. They got me one slice of the no-cheese veggie pizza. Delicious, if not very low-carb. Still, I've been pretty good all week, so a little pizza every now and then never hurts anyone.
We drove up to the William Smith Clark Memorial, which is a circle of metal silouettes that show buildings from the skylines of Hokkaido University and UMass, both of which Clark founded. The memorial also has vectors that run out from the center and lead to 4 to 6 surrounding plaques about Clark. The vectors are marked with brick within the memorial, but outside, they are marked through the lawn by lines of spring bulbs, mostly crocus and grape hyacinth -- a marvelous touch. The memorial itself is showing signs of neglect: frost heave has damaged some of the structures inside and it needs fresh gravel. Interestingly, there were no signs of vandalism or graffiti. I figure being up on top of a hill helps with that -- the vandals are too lazy to climb up a hill to wreck something. We sat in the sunshine and watched the carpenter bees stake out territories among the wooden benches.
It's a beautiful day, but I think I'll skip riding today (or ride only a little) and plan to take a long ride tomorrow -- maybe I'll try circumnavigating the Connecticut River. The weather looks to be perfect.
