I attended the Community Service Learning luncheon today because, although we didn't receive the unit implementation grant we had applied for, we did get a planning grant. I went to represent the team. When we applied, the director spoke about how important it was to the program that, if we were awarded the grant, that we would come to the luncheon to be recognized. Of course, the department that they awarded it to didn't send a representative. Typical.

Most of the luncheon was an awards banquet for students who received the Chancellor's award for community service. It was interesting to learn about the various ways in which students are performing community service. Unfortunately, it was conducted in a fairly tiresome way, in that most of the time was spent reading verbatim the 40 paragraph-long blurbs about each awardee that appeared in the program.

I mentioned to the director, Phil's idea of having students volunteer in the Ayn Rynd Antivolunteerism Program. He didn't seem to think it was anywhere near as funny as I did.
