Last night I hacked up a redesigned version of the ESNE website. I won't post the URL here because I don't want google to find it -- I get indexed by google pretty much constantly and it might show up and confuse people looking for the real site. Just drop me an email, if you want to look. The other day, I was searching for sites on the regulation of gene expression and saw a site that looked perfect until I realized it was the page we were working on the coursewiki. The page was only two or three days old at that point and it was like 6th or 7th in the list of hits. I'm not sure if the coursewiki has that much googlejuice or if it was that I linked to it from my journal. I've added a new page to start thinking about creating a gene expression lab for the intro biology course. I had a key insight today when I realized the nature of the task I would have students do: I'll create 8 or so versions of the model that have 5 genes that have a complex of relationships with one another, demonstrating positive and negative feedback and/or logical-gate relationships (which they'll have an opportunity to work with first). By knocking out genes and studying the output, we'll have students figure out what the relationships among the genes are.
