Well, I figured out one reason for why I struggled on the ride with Buzz -- I forgot to check my tire pressure after getting a spoke replaced on the back wheel. The tire was only about 20psi and I usually have them between 50 and 60. I pumped it back up today and had a great ride.
The long weekend has been restful. Yesterday we were in the Amherst Fourth of July parade. Alisa and I marched with the Amherst Democratic Town Committee. I carried a sign for Stan Rosenberg and Alisa threw candy. The boys rode in a float for the Harp. It was hot and by the end, I was very ready to sit down. But we still had to walk home across campus.
Later we went to see the fireworks. It was a nice display -- it seemed longer than usual. It also seemed like they had more technical problems than usual. One them appeared to go off on the ground. It was pretty, but it didn't seem like that was what they had intended. I took my new camera and tried to take pictures. Some of them turned out pretty well.
I also did a few ESNE things -- I designed some new nametags. You can see the rough design on the membership page. Bob had some good suggestions, so I'll be adjusting the design some. I would like to create an automated system to build the name tags from a database using free software. I think I can do it with MySQL, PHP, and TeX. I'll create the layout in TeX and then write a PHP script that can query the database and write the TeX to create pages with 6 name tags on them.
