I arrived in Germany yesterday morning at 8am (2AM eastern time). Professor Quednau met me at the airport, took me to his home to freshen up and have breakfast. His wife also speaks Esperanto and welcomed me warmly to their home. They live in a building that evidently has several flats. For breakfast, we had bread, rather like the dark bread at the German restaurant we often visit in Springfield, with ham and cheese with tea and coffee. Afterwards, we drove to the office, met various people, and spoke at length on many topics. The office is in Friesing which is actually some distance from Muenchen and is actually fairly rural, with farm fields and wooded areas nearby. We stopped at the bank and I exchanged some money -- the exchange rate is fairly unfavorable, about 0.8 euros to the dollar. So far the only thing I've bought was a bottle of soda, though, so I'm doing OK.
Today, I'm meeting with the eLearning team I will be working with. We've been looking at Ilias, an open-source learning management system. I'll need to install it when I get back and explore it's potential in more detail. I also demonstrated lon capa which has a bunch of rich assessment tools. I need to get back to lon-capa soon.
Tomorrow morning, we leave for Komarno, Slovakia. We mapped out the route yesterday, which should take us through Austria and Hungary. I'm looking forward to it.
