Now this is pathetic. The Washington Times reports that
U.S. national security adviser Condoleezza Rice says she remains convinced Iraq wanted to acquire nuclear weapons before last year's invasion.
This is news? Of course he wanted nukes. Duh. The only question is whether or not there was any likelihood he actually had them. And he didn't. The sanctions and inspectors had long since completely demolished all of the nuclear capabilities. When I saw Scott Ritter speak, he indicated that it was perfectly clear when he was leading the inspectors that everything had been destroyed then -- it was only that because Iraq had destroyed items that hadn't been "confirmed" destroyed that the first Bush administration could pretend that Iraq wasn't in compliance. Having declared Saddam an "evil dictator" there was no longer any possible room for anything other than his complete removal. It's been abundantly clear for a long time that the second Bush administration was looking for any possible excuse, no matter how farfetched, to justify invading Iraq. Cherry picking the intelligence. And there are voters still thinking that this administration can keep them safe?
