Today I wrote a press release about the upcoming Zamenhof Vespero. It is based loosely on a press release from the Brusela Komunikadcentro. I've sent it to the ESNE mailing list to encourage people to adapt it for their local papers. I need to add a bit of local color and then send it to our local paper.
New England celebrates the World Day of Esperanto
PRESS RELEASE OF THE ESPERANTO SOCIETY OF NEW ENGLAND
11/11/2004
The World Day of Esperanto, December 15, 2004, is an opportunity
to celebrate the importance of the diversity of human languages, the
right of everyone to speak their own language, and the value of the
language Esperanto: a second language for everyone, that allows people
everywhere to speak to one another on an equal footing. The World Day
of Esperanto is being celebrated in New England with a dinner on December
11th at the Sidney-Pacific Dormitory at the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology in Cambridge. Interested parties should visit the
ESNE website: http://esne.net/ or send email to esperanto (at) esne.net.
"Esperanto works for me," says Dr. Steven Brewer, President of the Esperanto Society of New England and a Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Brewer recently attended the meetings of the International Academy of Sciences, which was attended by 80 scientists and students from 17 different countries -- all conducted in Esperanto. "The community of Esperanto speakers is interesting and diverse. Esperanto is spoken in more than 100 countries around the world and there are magazines, books, and music, all in Esperanto."
The Esperanto Society of New England is an umbrella organization of local chapters, dedicated to helping Esperanto speakers organize and share information. In addition to the World Day of Esperanto celebrations, the organization offers two annual receptions, a spring business meeting, and publishes a newsletter: "Verdaj Folioj".
