I spent the weekend on quiet relaxation at home with the family. Lucy and I went to the library on Saturday morning and checked out a big stack of books, include Quicksilver and The System of the World. I've tried reading Quicksilver and have been able to get any traction. Phil suggested sticking it out until I reached a particular point to see if I might get there, but I'm not sure I'll be able to stand it. It's pretty boring and none of it seems like it could possibly end up being relevant to anything I might be interested in.
I checked out a couple more Raymond Feist books. They're light entertainment, but they're entertaining and stuff happens. I'm enjoying them.
During the end of last week, I had an idea occur to me that would make a good story, so I've been working on thinking it through as a story and have started writing it. I don't have a lot down on paper yet and what I have is rough, but if I keep making progress, I should have a story in a couple of weeks. I'm pleased with the idea: it's simple, but interesting (I think) coherent, and relevant. We'll see whether it holds together once I have the whole thing down.
