My new training regimen to get ready to ride a century this year is making good progress. This morning makes four days in a row I've gone to the fitness club and ridden for half-an-hour on the stationary cycle. I generally just put it on resistance level 5 and crank at 60rpm. I've tried some of the little programmed "courses" that vary the resistance level, but I find that I don't like them much. I actually don't like to ride that way either: I generally change gears so that I can maintain roughly constant resistance at a normal cadence, although when going up a steep hill the gears aren't low enough to do that. My plan is to gradually try to push up my cadence and increase resistance. I think this is going to give me a big jump start on the riding season.
Today I had scheduled to go to the state house to lobby the legislature to pass our retroactive pay increases. It's astonishing to me that the state government thinks it's OK to just not pay for some of the contracts they agreed to. They're willing to fund raises for themselves, but still haven't paid off on our contract -- even while we're now negotiating the next contract. It's almost incomprehensible to me and speaks volumes about the disrespect that Massachusetts has for public higher education. The trip was cancelled, unfortunately, anticipating a blizzard today, but the storm passed to the north of us and mostly we got rain. It's given me a free day, with no appointments, to get caught up on stuff.
