My cocoa book arrived yesterday. A couple of weeks ago, Phil decided he was going to teach himself to program in cocoa and got Aaron Hillegass's book Cocoa Programming for MacOS X. I decided I would buy and copy too so we could work through the exercises together. I have a bit of catching up to do... It looks like fun so far.
It looks like we're going to try upgrading the intro lab computers to use OS X. The lab coordinator wants to use a new project called Rashi that is being developed by CCBIT. The intro lab machines have been holding at OS 9 for several reasons. First, because changing would introduce a huge amount of instability, which the lab coordinator abhors. If we chance how the lab machines work, its going to mean a huge number of things that just work now are going to have to be figured out again. Also because the machines are old (G3s) and don't really have enough RAM to run OS X well. I'm updating a test machine so we can try it out and see whether the strategy is feasible.
