I've been using the Mozilla web browser for years -- I started using it around .8 and have been pretty satisfied to see it grow and mature. At 1.7.6, it's really solid. I don't use the email client or the newsreader (much), so I thought I'd give Firefox a try. I installed it last week and today I've decided to switch back. There are a bunch of things I like better about Mozilla. I like that I can have the toolbars be just words. I like that I can set animated gifs to never loop without having to manually edit the prefs. I like that pop-ups are only noted by an icon in the lower bar (not a popup bar in the window). I like that the first item in the contextual menu for tabs is to close the tab. I particularly like that the Go menu lists the previous history of each tab individually, rather than the gobal history. That was the factor that finally got me to switch back. It may be that a lot of this stuff is configurable, but what a pain to have to find all those things and switch them back. I suspect that a bunch of the default settings for Firefox are aimed at IE users. Sorry -- I just like Mozilla better.

Today there was an awards banquet at lunchtime, so I did what I always do when trapped at a meeting -- I used the occasion to write some haiku. My favorite was

maplena taso
apud malpura teler'
muŝa bankedo
(an empty cup, a dirty plate, a fly feast)
