The first week of classes was exhausting. I came down with a cold which added significantly to the challenge. It was wonderful to recover during the weekend, although I could use another week or so before going back.

Tom and Kirsten stopped by to visit this evening. It was wonderful to have a chance to catch up and for the boys -- especially Daniel -- to see Tom. He's like a favorite uncle when he visits. Daniel wanted to show him how he could ride a bike and Tom raced him down the street in his flip-flops. We sat out in our screen tent to eat burgers, drink some beer, and chat.

Yesterday, Charlie found a 500 Bolivares note from Venezuela. No-one was quite sure where it came from, a school mate possibly gave it to them or lost it in the car or something. Charlie was hopeful it would be worth $500, but made the mistake of asking me what I thought it was worth. I guessed it would be worth a quarter, but offered to buy it from him at its fair market value. We checked a currency exchange site and found it to be worth $0.23. So I gave him a quarter for it.

At the library I found Wobblies! A graphic history of the IWW. It's interesting, although its depressing too. I haven't read enough of it to formed a coherent opinion yet, but its really sad to think about the struggles and the promise of the IWW, which essentially came to naught. People today mostly wouldn't even understand the viewpoint. People in the US all see themselves as capitalists -- even the ones that don't have any capital. Very sad.

Still no word from Global Voices on how they see Esperanto fitting in. I'm not surprised..
