The second week of the semester hasn't let up much compared with the first. I'm still constantly busy and am getting home only in the middle of the evening. Not as many crises today as yesterday, however, so that's good.

Last week Zane stopped in and mentioned the sculpture I'd made for Randy. Zane said that Randy had suggested asking me for one and wanted to enthusiastically follow up on the suggestion. So I made a sculpture for Zane's office. We put it up a few days ago.

Alisa had thought my previous sculpture was too regular, so I tried to make this one more antigogglin. I dunno. Zane was liberal with praise, though, and was very happy.

Back in June or sometime, Alisa and the boys bought a luna moth cocoon from the butterfly place. We had been keeping it for weeks, not really paying attention, and then suddenly a couple of days ago there was a gorgeous luna moth inside. Cool! The boys took it to school and then last night we released it.

We took it outside before trying to take pictures. Once we got it out, it began trembling (thermoregulating to warm up its muscles before taking flight), but we were able to get these couple of pictures before it took off.

It turns out the luna moths aren't very smart -- especially around electric lights. It immediately flew up and started battering itself against the porch light. When we tried to open the door to switch off the porch light, it immediately flew in the door and began battering itself against the kitchen light fixture. I eventually managed to catch it in some paper towel and, after a couple of false tries, get it back out the door, where it battered itself against the screen door. This time, we called someone still inside the house to close the door and then, finally, it flew up and vanished over the house and into the inky blackness. Stupid moth.

Philip helpfully commented that I would be stupid too, if I had a brain as small as a poppy seed.
